5 Great Ways To Celebrate National Pet Day

April 11th Is National Pet Day! Of course, your furry best friend deserves to be loved and pampered every day. That said, why not go the extra mile and show your animal companion some extra TLC? Toys and treats are always great, but there are some other ways to pamper your dog or cat. Read on as a New Tulsa, OK vet lists some great ways to celebrate National Pet Day.

Photos

We’re guessing that many of our clients already have some pretty adorable pet photos on their phones and computers. However, there’s no such thing as too many cute pet pictures! Take time to snap some charming shots of your four-legged friend. Print and frame your favorites, or add fun captions and share them on social media.

Petproofing

Never underestimate the ability of dogs and cats to get themselves into trouble. Do a quick inspection of your home, and remove or secure anything Fido or Fluffy shouldn’t be playing with. This includes anything toxic, such as medicine, household cleaning agents, lawn/garden products, and poisonous plants; small or sharp items; wires and cords; and plastic bags, wrappers, and ties.

Veterinary Care

Just like people, pets need regular medical care. We recommend that all dogs and cats be microchipped and spayed or neutered. It’s also important to keep up with your furry friend’s vaccinations, exams, parasite control; and dental care needs. If your little (or not so little) buddy hasn’t come in for a while, set up an appointment today!

Get New Digs

Has it been a while since Fido got a new bed? Is Fluffy’s cat tower shredded and tattered? Buy or make your beloved pet some new furniture. For a bigger project, you can turn a sunroom or patio into a catio by adding pet-safe plants and toys. If you have a yard, make it more fun for your pup by incorporating a sandbox, kiddie pool, or doggy agility area. A doghouse is also a great gift!

Help Pets In Need

Not all pets are lucky enough to have loving homes. Consider supporting a local animal charity or humane society. Donations are always welcome, but you can also drop off much-needed supplies. You may even want to consider volunteering!
